What's New?

  • GameStop Commercial

Josh has been out of the country, so he hadn't gotten to see his new GameStop commercial that began airing in early December. We finally saw it on youtube today... FUN!

  • Commercials!

McDonald's production shot Joshua RushIt's been commercial commercial commercial for Josh lately! In September, he shot a commercial for Toyota with his friend Riley Thomas Stewart... although sadly you only get to see the side of Josh's head in the final version of "Rolling Up" for Toyota Highlander! Cute commercial, though, and Josh is happy to have been involved with such a fun campaign.

And Josh's new McDonald's commercial that will tout the Bakugon Happy Meal will be on the air soon. He was thrilled to get to work with a new friend, Isaiah, play with Bakugon toys, and eat Chicken McNuggets over and over again. What could be more fun for an 8-year-old?

If that isn't enough, he just shot a new Christmas commercial for GameStop called "Cool Dad," where he got to see some very cool make-up and hair effects done on his "dad." This campaign should be very funny! We expect that to begin airing in November.

Please help us track these commercials by letting us know if you see any of them!

  • Chuck Season Premiere on NBC (and the return of Young Chuck)

Joshua Rush and Yvonne StrahovskiThe countdown is on... just two more days until the Chuck season 4 premiere on Monday September 20th at 8/7c on NBC. Look for Josh in the opening scenes...we may just catch an eagerly-awaited glimpse of Chuck's mom!

Josh shot the episode in July, and there was no question about the highlight of his shoot day-- meeting beautiful Yvonne Strahovski, who plays Sarah on the show. They don't have any scenes together, but they managed to meet and chat.

Josh is excited to now be a part of the show's recurring cast, and can't wait for present-day Chuck's next flashback!

  • Top Secret Commercial Booking!

This week Josh was on set for a new top secret national commercial. We had to sign an NDA before he could even audition! Of course we can't say what it is for, but after it starts airing, we will let you know.... because at that point, the secret will be out! The commercial will air nationally on network and cable stations, and will also run on the internet. Josh has also been asked back to do some interactive work for the brand's website as well. Yay!!!

  • Special Agent Oso - Again!

Joshua Rush and Taylar Hender - Special Agent Oso Recording SessionJosh was asked to return and do three additional episodes of Special Agent Oso-- what an honor! Most recently, he played Chris in an episode about sharing, opposite Taylar Hender, who is also from Houston. Josh and Taylar had a great time working together on such a fun show.

In "Live and Let Heal," an episode Josh recorded earlier in 2010, he plays Malcolm and learns about boo-boo's and band-aids. He also recorded the character Luke in an episode about a birthday party. These latest three episodes will begin airing in Summer 2011.

Josh is also excited to see his prior episode "From China With Love" that began airing this summer. In it, he plays the voice of a young boy (Rick) who is learning to use chopsticks. If you see it before we do, please let us know how it is!

  • ADR for The Last Airbender, Unstoppable and Megamind

Josh has really been having fun lending his voice for ADR (Additional Dialogue Recording) for some major movies. His latest ones have been: the new Will Ferrell / Pixar animated film Megamind, the Denzel Washington action thriller Unstoppable, and the M. Night Shyamalan blockbuster The Last Airbender, based on the TV series Avatar: The Last Airbender. He loves acting with his voice!

Please look for Josh's name in the credits of all of these films and tell us if you see it. We were excited and surprised to see his name at the end of the Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie in March, and Ramona and Beezus this summer, especially since ADR actors are not guaranteed credits. But it is so much fun to see his name on the big screen!

  • Commercials and Print Work - K-Mart and Kohl's

Joshua Rush and Daniela- KMartJosh was lucky enough to be cast in another K-Mart commercial this spring! Like his previous K-Mart spot, the commercial was in Spanish, and advertises outdoor patio furniture and features Josh and his younger "sister" in a role-reversal situation, telling their parents in it's time to come in (¡Es tarde! ¡Es tiempo para dormir!"). It can be seen now on network and cable Spanish-language TV.

Josh also had a lot of fun doing some modeling work for Kohl's, when he got to play hopscotch with a new friend. He can be seen on in-store signage advertising Nike shoes during the back-to-school time period (July, August, etc). Please let us know if you see it!

  • Chuck Season Finale airs May 24th at 8/7c on NBC

Zachary Levi, Joshua Rush and Scott BakulaThe most exciting (and current) news is Josh's appearance on Monday night's season finale episode of Chuck. The show has a cult following and lots of dedicated fans, and in my daily automated email update that I get from Google, I keep learning about more and more fansites discussing Young Chuck and Young Ellie, and what the flashback will show. And NBC just announced that they are renewing Chuck for a 4th season (yay!), so excitement is even more heightened.

And now that it's public knowledge that their dad will be appearing on this episode, I can say that Young Chuck and Young Ellie's father on the show is none other than Scott Bakula, from Men of a Certain Age, but who I remember from the late 80s show Quantum Leap! The kids had a great time working with Scott... he was so kind and sweet to them, and very complimentary of their abilities as actors. (We adults enjoyed meeting him too!)

Young Chuck (Joshua Rush) and Young Ellie (Jadin Gould) will appear in the episode entitled Chuck vs. The Ring, Part Two, which will air in the second hour.

    There are production photos here:

And here is the official website for the show:

You can always send him comments on his work, or just say hello via his website at joshuarush.com/contact. We love to hear from you!

  • Josh is Young Chuck on NBC’s Chuck!

Zachary Levi and Joshua Rush - ChuckIn NBC’s action-comedy television show Chuck, an average computer-whiz-next-door receives an encoded e-mail from an old college friend now working in the CIA, and the message embeds the only remaining copy of the world's greatest spy secrets into main character Chuck's brain. The series is in its third season, and for the season finale, there will be flashbacks of Chuck at age 7 (played by Joshua Rush), and his sister Ellie (played by Jadin Gould) at age 11. Josh was SO excited to be cast as Young Chuck, especially since his dad is a fan of the show!

We are sworn to secrecy about anything that happens in the flashbacks, but Josh had a fantastic time on set—he calls it his favorite on-set experience yet. He especially loved meeting the “present day” Chuck, Zachary Levi and comparing “Chucks,” referring to their matching black Chuck Taylor Converse shoes. The show airs as part of a 2-hour season finale on May 24, 2010. Click here for an article from Entertainment Weekly referencing Young Chuck’s appearance in the finale, and click here for behind-the-scenes photos from Josh’s shoot day.

  • Josh appears on CSI:NY as Luke Garito

Joshua Rush and Melina KanakaredesIn mid-February Josh was cast as Luke Garito for an episode of CSI:NY on CBS. The episode is called “Rest in Peace, Marina Garito,” referring to his character’s sister, and is sure to be a thriller. Josh’s experience on set was amazing—he had fun doing a scene with Melina Kanakaredes, who plays Detective Stella Bonasera on the show, and he really connected with Director Allison Liddi-Brown. The crew was warm and inviting, and Josh had a wonderful time. The episode airs April 7, 2010 on CBS at 10/9c.

  • Parenthood ADR

parenthood loop group joshua rushJosh had the exciting opportunity to provide be part of the "loop group" (pictured here) to provide additional voices (ADR) for certain scenes in the pilot episode of the new Ron Howard series Parenthood. While most ADR voices are just used as background noise, there’s at least one “callout” of Josh’s that can be heard when Max Braverman steps up to the plate at his little league game. Yay Josh!

  • ADR for some BIG movies!

Joshua Rush - Diary of a Wimpy Kid ADRIn the past couple of months, Josh has had the opportunity to do ADR for some exciting films! ADR stands for Additional Dialogue Replacement (or Recording), and it is done in the final stages of editing, to smooth out the audio track of the movie. For the actor, it involves matching your voice to what's on a large screen... for example, if the characters are laughing on screen-- you're laughing, too! Josh did ADR as part of a "loop group" of 14 kids for Ramona and Beezus, which hits theaters in July 2010. More recently, Josh did some solo ADR work at Fox for the new Diary of a Wimpy Kid movie, which comes out March 19, 2010. He is loving his time on the ADR stage, working with some big-time directors and honing his ADR skills!

  • Radio Spot Voiceover

Joshua Rush voiceoverJosh had a fun opportunity in the voiceover booth just before the holidays in 2009. He auditioned and booked a radio spot for the grocery store chain Publix. He had one line: "Hey dad!" and had to say it about 20 different ways... and somehow succeeded. The spot will begin airing in the southeast United States in late February 2010.

  • Criminal Minds: Outfoxed

Joshua Rush Criminal Minds OutfoxedLast month, Josh was cast in an episode of Criminal Minds. They shot for two days in October, and it is likely to be a very intense episode... not for the faint of heart! The episode airs November 18th at 9/8c on CBS, and Josh plays one of three children in a family that is the victim of a serial killer. The crew was very kind and helpful in explaining things to the kids, and consequently, they all had a great time filming it... giggling and laughing at all of the special effects and "funny" situations they found themselves in. Josh enjoyed getting to know his on-screen big brother and sister, Sam Cohen and Savannah Lathem,  his on-screen mom Hope Levy, and although he didn't get to work directly with him, he got to pal around a little with Matthew Gray Gubler, who plays Dr. Spencer Reid on the show. Josh is very proud to have worked on his fourth prime-time episodic in just over a year of living in Los Angeles!

  • Jay Leno's Super DUPER Nanny

Joshua Rush Jay Leno Door SignIn October, Josh shot a skit for an upcoming episode of the new primetime Jay Leno show. In it, he gets to act like a bratty kid in the mall, whose parents get stopped by—not just the SuperNanny—but the Super DUPER Nanny, played by comedian Elon Gold. Josh had a lot of fun, but the best part was hanging out on the set at NBC Studios, surrounded by Jay's cars and his new racetrack. That, and having his name on the door of his dressing room!

  • Special Agent Oso!

In the middle of October, Josh had the opportunity to work on an episode of Special Agent Oso, a Playhouse Disney show for preschoolers. He played the voice of Rick, a little boy learning to use chopsticks. Josh has loved voice work ever since he was very young, yet this was his first animated role. He is hoping for many more!

  • Josh decorates the walls at Sprint Stores nationwide

Joshua Rush visits a Sprint storeVisited a Sprint store lately? The photos from his May 2009 shoot have finally made it to the stores-- and Josh had a great time visiting some stores in the Los Angeles area! We are told they will be up throughout the fall. There are a total of three photos that were used, though we only saw one of them in the stores we visited. Please send us photos if you see Josh on the walls in your city!

  • KMart Christmas Commercial

Joshua Rush and Luz on KMart SetIn late September, Josh filmed his fourth Spanish language commercial-- a seasonal Christmas spot for K-Mart. In it, he has a big sister Luz, who he loved-- and they got to spend the day in their pajamas, opening presents on "Christmas" morning! Josh's big moment? Exclaiming "Uau (wow!), un Transformer!" Look for the spot on Spanish language stations nationwide during the 2009 holiday season.

  • Josh returns to Medium

Joshua Rush with Medium SlateEarlier this month, Josh found out that his character, previously known only as 'Boy in Banana Costume' would return to the show, but this time, with a name: Tanner Campbell! He will appear early in the season as a classmate of Marie (the youngest daughter) during Career Day at Marie's school. For this episode, Josh got to work with Jake Weber, who plays Joe on the show, as well as Miranda Carabello, who plays Marie. He loved working with the crew again, and knew it was a big honor to be asked to return!

  • Josh Appears on Medium on May 11th

Joshua Rush Banana BoyJosh made his debut as "Boy in Banana Costume" tonight in a co-star role on NBC's Medium. The scene is a dream sequence of Allison's youngest daughter, Marie, and turns out to be a nightmare when she forgets her lines during a school play. Since the dream starts the show, Josh's voice is the first one heard, when he introduces the school play, saying, "Hello, and welcome to the Pageant of the Five Food Groups...." View a clip of the episode in the Gallery, and view production photos and screenshots here.

  • Print Work for Clorox, Wal-Mart and Sprint!

Josh plays with Leaves for Sprint shootJosh has been lucky enough to book all three of the print auditions he has been on in the last few weeks! He worked first for Clorox, for an insert that will be seen only by grocery stores. The next day he worked for Wal-Mart, for an ad that will appear in a glossy magazine (Parade?) inserted into newspapers nationwide. Most recently, he worked for Sprint for a campaign that will appear in Sprint stores in the fall. All of the shoots were very different, with Clorox being shot on location in a suburban home, and Wal-Mart and Sprint being shot in studios. He had so much fun on all of them, and really enjoyed working with other kids, "on-camera dads," and with different studio teachers, and is enjoying his rediscovered aptitude for print modeling! More photos of the Sprint shoot can be found in the Gallery under Sprint Production Photos.

The CARE Awards are an annual event produced by BizParentz to honor showbiz kids who are well-rounded... meaning that they have good grades, do volunteer work, etc. The kids really enjoy all the hype, and the parents get to learn more about the "biz." Josh's CARE Award was for his work on the emotional short film The Journal. He is very proud of his work on The Journal, and is proud to receive the award in honor of the film.

  • First Publicity Interview: Heroes

Josh did his first publicity interview the week that his Heroes episode aired, with the official Heroes fansite, called HeroesWiki.com. Ryan, the interviewer, did a great job asking Josh about kid-stuff (like what books Josh likes to read) as well as behind-the-scenes stuff. Josh was nervous, but he did a great job!! Ryan said that 4000 people generally read the interviews that are on HeroesWiki... so hopefuly will help to build a nice fan base for "Little Sylar" so that he will return next season... since we now know that Heroes WILL return in the fall-- YAY!

The interview transcript is posted here:

  • Ad Council PSA - in English and Spanish

joshua rush on screen for ad council childhood asthma psa

Josh booked and shot a commercial with renowned director Joe Pytka last week. It was an Ad Council PSA for childhood asthma, and Josh shot both the English and the Spanish versions of the commercial. Though we were on set for 8 hours, they didn't shoot his part until the very end of the day-- and it took about 5 minutes to do his lines in English, and another 5 minutes to do the Spanish version! We have no idea when it will begin airing, so please do let us know if you see it. The theme of the commercial is "There's a monster..." and Josh shot his lines in a kitchen setting. In our downtime, we had a lot of fun with other kid actors Elijah and Quinn and their parents, so the time passed quickly!

  • Little Sylar's Big Scenes on Heroes

joshua rush as little sylar on heroes screenshot

Josh's episode of Heroes aired this week! We were all thrilled with how much "face time" Josh got! He woke up early the next morning to see the recorded episode, and gasped when he saw how long he was on screen, TWO times!! He really loved seeing how they edited it together, especially since the diner scene was actually shot in two locations... the interior was shot on the Heroes set in Hollywood, and the exterior was shot on location outside of Santa Clarita. It was seamless, and really fun for all of us to watch. And of course, we cheered when we saw Josh's credit at the end!

If you missed the episode, you can see it here:
    Heroes Episode 3-18: Exposed

Lots of people have asked us whether Josh was scared when he shot the part with Little Sylar's mother dying. The cool thing about being on a set is that he gets to see everything "behind the scenes." So he actually hung out with the actress that played his mother off and on for hours before shooting that scene, and for most of that time, she had all of the make up on her forehead. He also saw them squirt the fake blood while she was laying in the dirt.  The short answer is-- he wasn't scared at all. Josh is still the same innocent little 7-year-old boy, don't worry!!

  • Joshua Rush to appear on MEDIUM

Yesterday Josh had a great time shooting an episode of Medium. We can't tell you much about the episode, of course-- but his character was a co-starring role called "Banana Boy." He especially enjoyed playing with Madison and Miranda Carabello, the twins who share the role of "Marie" on the show. You can see more photos of the shoot in the production photos section of Josh's gallery.

This is Josh's third episodic appearance in just six months of being an L.A. local. Yay JOSH!!

  • NBC’s Heroes: Little Sylar is… Joshua Rush!

Joshua Rush with Zachary Quinto - BIG SYLAR and LITTLE SYLARA big bump for Josh’s career happened just before Thanksgiving when we found out that NBC booked Josh for the role of Little Sylar. The show is just beginning to delve into Sylar’s past. Josh shot for two days in early December and truly enjoyed meeting BIG Sylar (Zachary Quinto), as well as other members of the cast, and working both on set and on location. The episode airs in March, though there will be a little hint of Josh in the episode on February 2, 2009. We can’t wait!

  • How Do You Make a Turkey? Josh answers…

Joshua Rush NBCs Holiday MomentsJoshua Rush recently had the opportunity to be interviewed along with other children for NBC's Greatest Holiday Moments (Co-Executive Produced by Emily Sinclair, previously of Extreme Makeover: Home Edition). NBC’s Greatest Holiday Moments is a countdown of favorite moments from holiday television and film. To be used as segues to commercial breaks, producers asked the kids questions such as "How do you make a turkey?" and "What does Mrs. Claus do while Santa is out delivering presents?"?? In his typical analytical, intellectual style, he delivered a few choice responses! The show airs on NBC December 5, 2008 at 8/7 central. Watch the clip here.

  • ADR for Private Practice

Joshua Rush ADR Private PracticeThis week, Josh was called to an audio post-production studio to do “looping” for his episode of Private Practice. This is when the post-production team decides that they need a little extra of Josh’s voice to fill in some holes. He had a great time seeing himself on a big screen matching his voice to his actions on screen. It’s a bit complicated to get, but Josh understood what to do immediately, and had so much fun, too!

  • Josh on the Big Screen

Josh had a really fun, special evening tonight at Arclight Cinema in Hollywood, where his first short film The Journal, was shown on the big screen as part of the Hollywood Film Festival. He squealed (quietly, of course!) when he saw himself larger than life, and loved every minute of sitting in the theater amongst the other movie-goers. After the film, he mingled with other cast- and crew-members, and handed out his business cards while people told him over and over again what a great job he did in the film. Yay Josh!!!!

  • First Network Television Show- Private Practice!

joshua rush on set of private practice

We'd been living in L.A. for just over a month when Josh booked an episode of Private Practice! It airs on ABC on Wednesday nights, and is a spinoff of Grey's Anatomy. He had an amazing time on set for five days with new friend Hailey Sole, who plays Dell's (Chris Lowell's) daughter, and "brothers," Ian Bodell and Jackson Wurth. He plays Will, brother to one of Cooper's (Paul Adelstein) patients. The episode centers around vaccination and is sure to cause an interesting debate once it airs. The airdate is currently set for January 14th, 2009, but could always change, so please check listings!

  • Josh Is Rescued (in a new film!)

Josh just completed shooting a film for director Alex Jablonski called Blue Boy. He plays a little boy who almost drowns, but is rescued by one of the main characters. For the underwater drowning scene, they used a mannequin dressed in the same swim trunks that Josh wore, but they used the REAL Josh for the rescue scenes.

Josh is a complete FISH (meaning that he LOVES the water) so this was one of his most fun shoot days to date, since he got to splash around in the water all day long. He also enjoyed hanging out with his 87-year-old set teacher Cliff Hirsch, who doesn't plan to retire anytime soon!

  • Josh is an L.A. local

Joshua Rush's star on the Hollywood Walk of FameAs of August 10, 2008, Josh now lives in Los Angeles full-time, He is enjoying the sunny Southern California weather, palm trees, and beautiful beaches and mountains!
